Excursion tips

Nature reserve “Taubergießen”
The nature resereve of “Taubergießen” is located in the middle parts of the Upper Rhine Valley to the south of “Lahr”, between “Rheinhausen” in the district of “Emmendingen”, the municipality of “Rust” and “Kappel-Grafenhausen” in the “Ortenau”. Surrounded by marshes and dense riparian forests the nature reserve is one of the very few remaining “Rheinauen” landscapes in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

The seasons make the mystical meadow landscape multifaceted and every single season offers a unique vegetation and animal word. Admire during spring the colourful flowering period and listen to the impressive concert of many different bird voices. Watch young birds flying above the water in the summertime and if you are lucky you will also see a kingfisher, a very shy and rarely seen animal type that has optimal living conditions in the nature reserve. In autumn the nature reserve shines in lively colours and in winter the landscape is calm and peaceful while nature rests.

You can also explore the nature reserve impressively by traditional punt. The “Rust” boaters are experienced guides to show you the untouched nature and will tell eventful stories about fishery, nature and the life that takes place around them. In this habitat shaped by the water live many endangered species. Find inspiration and discover with us the miracles of nature.

The jewel “Liliental Ihringen”
Experience one day in a botanical fairytale world. Let yourself be charmed and enjoy nature away from everyday life.

“Lilienthal” is a loess-covered volcanic mound near Freiburg in the upper Rhine valley located between “Ihringen” and “Wasenweiler” at the Southern edge of the “Kaiserstuhl” region. When you drive along the narrow road which is the only road that leads into the valley you will first of all see the house of a former estate manager. The house is known as “Kleines Schlössle” and is today’s guest house “Zur Lilie”. Right besides, you can enter the arboretum, a large area built in the style of an English Garden where many botanical rarities like a sequia wood and wild orchids grow.

Different hiking trails through woods and meadows offer room for relaxation. “Lilienthal’s” specific flora gives the valley an exotic character. The park can be visited at any time.

Go on a hiking tour into the valley, enjoy nature and get to know new tree and plant species.
